THE POWER OF THE MIND

THE POWER OF THE MIND

THE POWER OF THE MIND

How many times have you thought about getting healthier?

Most people think about it continuously, but very often dont go through with it. Bottom line is they let that small voice in the back of their head tell them that they are are too overweight to start or maybe its in my genes, so i was always meant to be this way.

What you must remember is that these thoughts are just ingrained patterns and can be changed. Can´t and can, one letter away from two different thought patterns.

We are surrounded with negative news, its everywhere, so it infiltrates our mind. We can use a few strategies to start thinking more positively.

A good one is when you first wake up in the morning and your lying there half asleep, think of ten great things that are going to happen to you, really think about them, you will find you will start the day off in a positive mindset.

At GYMTOYOU we concentrate on helping people mentally as well as physically. you must believe in yourself , so you can make sure you make the right decisions so as to lead a happier, healthier life!

THE IMPORTANCE OF A GOOD BREAKFAST

THE IMPORTANCE OF A GOOD BREAKFAST

THE IMPORTANCE OF A GOOD BREAKFAST

Why eat a good breakfast you may ask?

It reduces hunger throughout the day, helping  you make better food choices for all other meals and snacks. It also kickstarts your metabolism, helping you to burn more bodyfat consistently all day long ,thats what we want right?

What do we eat ?

I get asked this question on a regular basis, the looks i get when i answer it in this way are priceless, most people will say cereals, i believe its because of marketing. Over the years large corporations have bombarded us with advertising promoting packaged sugar laden products.

Remember breakfast is just another meal, but a very important one, so why is it so different? The truth is that is not. As with all other meals you should consume a good balance of good protein, good fats and low GI carbs.

When im asked by clients and i tell them this, the looks i get are priceless. I ask them why they are thinking of cereals first, generally they dont know, thats because its an ingrained thought pattern and most of the time, just a habitual behavior. You probably go straight to the cupboard and pull out the cereal box without even thinking, am i right?

Try and start off by having an omlette, its easy to make and tastes amazing. A couple of eggs, your choice of veggies and some good lean chicken/fish/or red meat, start small and over time increase the volume. Remember its always better to cook for yourself, you know exactly what your eating, and we all know that home cooked food just tastes yummier than processed packaged massed produced rubbish.

It may take time to feel “right”, i guarentee you, you wont look back and the results you get will be amazing.

ENJOY!

CORE STRENGTH – THE FOUNDATION OF YOUR BODY

CORE STRENGTH – THE FOUNDATION OF YOUR BODY

CORE STRENGTH – THE FOUNDATION OF YOUR BODY

At GYMTOYOU  mobile personal training we work with clients of various ages and fitness, strength levels. Im amazed at the lack of understanding when it comes to the importance of core strength. It is so crucial to how your body functions, that im sure our clients get sick and tired of us working on this area of there bodies, but as the training goes on they soon realise why we do so.

Just reflect for a moment and think about how our body is constructed. Essentially we´ve got four limbs and a trunk. At the centre of the trunk is the abdominal muscles and at the back our erector spinea, which are the two large muscles which run vertically along our spine all of which hold us upright and give us stability.

If our core muscles are weak our spine is unsupported and is expected to take all the load, hence alot of people suffer from lower back pain caused by the foundation (core) not being strong enough to  take that load.

With a strong core comes better posture (from being more upright) greater function of all major organs (from having more room to do their job) less stress on the spine (leading to no lower back problems) now im hoping your starting to get the picture.

HOW DO I INCREASE CORE STRENGTH?

It is a myth that the go to exercise the crunch, will create abs or more importantly core strength. It is important to replicate the bodies natural or neutral position, so extension exercises are the most effective.

It is important to start with low impact core exercises like the plank or lateral bridge and as your core strength improves dont rest on your laurels, you must increase the difficulty of the exercises.

At GYMTOYOU mobile personal training we can assist you with professional programming and the motivation and consistency in your training to alleviate all your back aches and pains, and create perfect posture and a rock hard foundation for your body.

SLEEP – WHY YOU SHOULD BE GETTING MORE

SLEEP – WHY YOU SHOULD BE GETTING MORE

Its a major part of life… Sleeping.

Its a fact of life that most people don´t get enough. Do we pay as much attention to getting enough as we should ?

NO, DEFINITELY NOT! We should be.

We see endless discussions in the media about nutrition and exercise, but for some unknown reason sleep is hardly given a mention.

YAWN! You might say, but you should take into account that more than a third of your life is soent sleeping. So its an underrated part of the health puzzle.

How do you feel after a “good nights sleep?”

I bet you feel alive, your thoughts are clearer and your emotions are less fragile, you also have much more energy.

Why aren´t you getting enough?

Stress is the major factor attributing to a lack of sleep. In the modern world we seem to stress about everything. Why? is that normal? I dont think so.

We tend to lie their going over and over various things in our heads to the point that we can´t get to sleep. RELAX! i say.

Turn off devices at least half an hour before going to bed. Try meditating, relaxing to the point that your in the moment. Think of all the good things you have got in your life, we have lots, believe me.

The benefits of sleep.

Getting enough sleep helps produce extra protein molecules, this strengthens your ability to fight infection. These molecules help your immune system mend your body at a cellular level when you are stressed or have been exposed to compromising elements such as pollutants and infectious bacteria.

Sleep also keeps your heart healthy by keeping your blood pressure and your cholesterol levels in check. Sleep improves your memory. It helps you to concentrate better aiding your brain to absorb information.

Sleep helps you control body weight. It regulates the hormones that control your appetite. When your hormone imbalance is interrupted  it increases your appetite leading to cravings for food that are high in calories leading to weight gain.

As you can see the benefits of getting enough sleep are extensive, and makes a huge difference to your quality of life. So it is vitally important to place a priority on getting plenty of quality, consistent sleep.

THINKING ABOUT SURGERY? – SORE KNEE OR OTHER BODY PARTS

THINKING ABOUT SURGERY? – SORE KNEE OR OTHER BODY PARTS

At GYMTOYOU we deal with lots of people, its a fact of life, whether your exercising or not that an injury or even wear and tear, might over time cause you some discomfort in your joints.

SO WHAT DO I DO? You may ask.

Most people will head straight to the doctor. The most common response will be”I think you should go for an MRI”, or maybe “Looks like theres some damage to your joint, or something floating around in there” so lets book you in for a scan and then think about an arthroscopy” True in some cases, but before you rush into it, it may be worth trying some  exercise.

I´m not talking about hardcore training (you never know over time that would also  be a great idea),  i´m talking about basic body weight strengthening exercises, that performed under the supervision of a qualified PT and progressed over time, will  help increase the stability  and balance of your joints and give you more functional movement.

We provide quality training, stretching and myofacial release programs, coupled with long term commitment and the support you need to live a pain free life without  scans or the need for surgery.

HAPPINESS – A WORD THATS THROWN AROUND ALOT . BUT WHAT DOES IT ACTUALLY MEAN ?

HAPPINESS – A WORD THATS THROWN AROUND ALOT . BUT WHAT DOES IT ACTUALLY MEAN ?

HAPPINESS – A WORD THATS THROWN AROUND ALOT . BUT WHAT DOES IT ACTUALLY MEAN ?

What is it ?  I dont pretend to know, but one thing is for sure, it means different things to different people.

In this 21st century world we live in i think we have lost the meaning of the word. If i get the latest gadget, that will make me happy, but for how long? Not long i fear.

Getting back to basics would be a great place to start,  for instance think about the  important things in life. health, without good health i dont think you would be that “happy”, but one persons perception of good health is completely different to someone elses. For example if you had life threatening cancer that would be a really bad scenario right, but if you were in remission a virus that knocked you over for a couple of weeks wouldnt even rate a mention on the sadness scale  compared to what you have previously been through.

So we all have a different perception of what happiness is.

We should be getting back to basics, love yourself, your family, be the healthiest you can be  by eating well and exercising and start to realise that nothing or no one else can control how happy you feel but you.

At the end of the day being happy or unhappy is just another one of the millions of thoughts we have every second of every day.

You can either go through life with the glass half full mentality or the opposite, its totally up to you.
